You have ears, but are you listening?

The Bible references the statement, “He that hath an ear, let him hear,” 12 times. That says to me that God is really trying to get something to us.

I’ve heard preachers say over the years, “If God mentions something more than once in the Bible, pay attention.” Or, “If He does something more than once, pay attention.” What does that say about this statement...

With that said, I was a little baffled as to what the meaning was. And God and I have a conversational relationship, so I flat out asked, “What do you mean by this?”

He first brought me to the Hebrew meanings of hear.(shāma‘) means “to obey,” and (’āzan) means “to show attention or readiness.”So the scripture is carrying both — ’āzan (pay attention) and shāma‘ (obey what you’ve heard).

He who has ears to listen, let him obey. He who is inclined to listen, let him obey.

Let's break this down. Imagine have what you need to thrive and still failing? For example — having food but starving, having water but dying of thirst.

Understanding this passage makes me overwhelmed with admiration for the depths in which Christ is willing to go for us, for His people — His love for us.

He is literally supplying us with (1) ears to listen and giving us the things to listen to. But will we still starve? Will we still fail?

Tap into the love of God. His desire is that we are fruitful — so I say again,

he that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
